Well, it's finally here and it's going to ruin Youtube content creators, who can't get a lucky break. Those bastards in the US government are destroying this wonderful, beautiful, free platform that is open to all, especially kids under 13 years of age who Google targets with spying, tracking, analysis and advertising against all applicable laws, including the (in)famous COPPA. Wait, what?
In an interview with Matt from the Game Theorists channel, Youtube's Susan Wojcicki said that one dreadful problem related to US legislators is that they don't even have smartphones. Indeed, people like Donald Trump are stubborn luddites in their daily work, but that doesn't mean they can't be successful. The archetype of the luddite boomer legislator seems to be immortal as they apparently have the patience to communicate using homing pigeons and horse-riding couriers but once they get to you, you're history.
Still, note how she slyly deflected all blame by going to a non-sequitur – the fact the US legislators don't use smartphones has nothing to do with the fact Google spied on kids and bragged about it. The main problem with COPPA then becomes the fact Google was caught and so it shifted blame onto content creators. Thanks to the magic of eternally shifting EULAs and Terms of Service, Google can easily offload the blame onto content creators, who take it on the chin and have to cut their losses.
