Summary: WWI was a horrible war experience. This gamette will try to faithfully replicate it.
Goals for the gamette are:
I chose Godot because of its simplicity. Any features or concepts made in Godot should be easy to translate to other game engines. For now, the game will be 2D (top-down).
WWI was the beginning of industrial warfare. Belligerents threw hundreds of soldiers into the opponent's grinder to gain an inch of territory, only to retreat and defend against the opponent's counter-attack that tried to do the same. Shelling, gas attacks, constant maneuvering, and bitter fighting for any sliver of tactical advantage made WWI's battlefields hell on earth.
That kind of zone defense warfare reminds me of tower defense video games, which I am fond of. Instead of making yet another bog-standard tower defense with cookie-cutter assets, I decided to make it a WWI game and emphasize strategy elements.
